It’s Been 1 year, the unexpected start of a home hosted server

1 Year ago, on May 15^th, 2021. I had a random idea of creating a Minecraft server. I had recently used my router management gui and knew I could port forward and start a Minecraft server. I still didn’t know much about how to get a working server. I then looked up a tutorial and before you knew it bam! Garrettmc Network was born.

In the beginning I had no plans of the server ever going public. My only plans were to create a decent server for me and some friends to play on occasionally. Over time I got m0tivation from bigger Minecraft networks and their cool features. At the time I did not know had to do any of that. I started doing some research on it and soon enough I had my first plugins installed on my server. Un the begging these plugins weren’t much and were just to keep people from screwing up the spawn and for custom server motd. I created this website on May 27^TH, 2021 and that was my first hint at public server. In the beginning no one outside of my friend group really knew about the server. The server was not on any kind of voting website at the time, therefor no one could really discover it.

From June to mid-September the server remained semi-pubic with the same 2 or 3 plugins. That would all change on September 17^th, 2021. This was the date of release for Garrettmc 1.0, which is when the server officially went public. At the time the official name of the server was Garretts Network which would later be changed to Garrettmc Network in October 2021. 1.0 was the first signs that the server was changing from its founding principles. The server now had an anarchy, smp and Bedwars. At this point there was things to do on the server and we were happy with it for a bit.

I realized things needed a change if we were going to need to change if we were going to attract players on to the server. We started a new server; we had the same things as before but now things were much better as we switched to a multi-server bungee system instead of our multi world system of before. We were much happier with the release of this aka. Garrettmc 3.0.

As time went on things came to evolve to the way they are now. We are now doing development of the next big thing. We are Grateful for every one of you 😊. We can’t wait to show you all what’s coming in 3.0.
